Future is unpredictable

From A Cinderella Story

I've been struggling with these two quotes recently, trying to decide I should take a bold step in my life. It's not as easy as it seems... it's not really the fear of striking out that keeps me from playing the game, it's more the, "I'm not sure if I'm even supposed to be in the game or doing something else."

I think that's why we all love Hollywood movies: people in those stories take huge risks, the bet big and go for it... and then, it works out! They get their return, the risk is not too much and at the end, they get to say, "yeah, it's worth it."

And if not, we call it a tragedy.

But we can't do that in life, right? Can we just drop all of our sensibility and go out there and say, "I'm going to risk it all for my dream and if it turned out badly, well, it's a tragedy."

Yeah, not that easy.

We always hold back. We make back-up plans: plan B and C and D. We wonder about what's down the other road, over the next pasture, around the corner... Yet, at some point we have to realize that we can't have everything and we're just going to have to choose something, let other things go and be happy with what we end up with.

The possibilities in the future is endless. I look back on my life and is constantly amazed by the amount of "what-if's" I could have. What if my family didn't leave Taiwan? What if I didn't learn English? What if I didn't become Christian? What if I didn't go to so many different schools? I could be one of the million average person in Taiwan right now, fresh out of college and still be here, working as a small sales in a local computer business. Oh, wait. That's ironic.

But I made that choice. We are given the power to make choices. So choose! Don't stand at the fork and procrastinate in indecision for years. Take the risk, go with it and realize, that is life. Standing there and not choosing is NOT A CHOICE, okay? It's call letting life pass you by - the one and only choice that will guarantee you regret.

Choose.
