It used to be really hard for me to understand that phrase, "take a leap of faith." How do you do that? How do you "build" faith or "find" faith, let along leap "with" faith?
Then I remember watching one of the Indiana Jones movie and he had a leap of faith scene in his adventure. Running towards the treasure, he came to a cliff. His map tells him to walk on air across to the other side. And he even says, "it's a leap of faith." Then he stepped off the cliff. It turned out there's an invisible bridge. (video)
That little scene taught me a lot about leaps of faith. Now, several years later, I am beginning to understand what it means to take the leap of faith in life. Indiana had a treasure map that told him to walk on air. I have a God that teaches me how to live.
For me, a leap of faith may be turning down a really good job offer because they ask me to work on Sunday. It might mean getting married instead of going to graduate school. Or going on a mission instead of using my scholarship. It might be breaking up with a boy I really like because he has different standards from me.
A leap of faith is choosing something because we know it is the will of God. A leap of faith is sacrificing something good in hopes of getting something better. We must learn to trust God. Do all we can. Do what is right and then put it in His hands.
We can't know our happily ever after before we take the journey. A big part of life is not knowing the future. We learn to make decisions without knowing the consequences of our choices. And sometimes, we have to take a leap of faith to be rewarded with a miracle.
